January 5, 2007

I was inside with Anna/Amelia from My Fashionable Life. I mentioned something about how beautiful winters were, but how you didn’t realize that in California because it was so green all the time. “Oh, let’s go outside and see it, then,” she said, and we ran out onto a North Berkeley street–Arch Street, maybe? She had a giant pet turkey with gray feathers trimmed with dark blue, and it kept making these loud gobbling noises and flapping all over the street, landing on cars, flying away again. It was huge, a round, ridiculous blimp of a creature. The trees were all very green, though in the restrained way of the Mediterranean climate, where it’s never winter but never quite summer, either, not in the lush overflowing way Indiana had when we arrived in August. I looked down over the city at the view of the bay, the houses, the faraway fog.
