Last night I dreamed I was riding on a flying gyroscope. It was the normal small size, but you could somehow put both feet on it and crouch slightly to balance, and it would sail up in the air and you could zoom around. Someone was throwing things at me, video game-style, but I easily dodged these or batted them away, soared up to grab something important, and came down and landed gracefully on the ground.

The night before last (when I had just gotten back from my trip), I had some kind of frightful dream of a transit montage. I kept having to transfer from trains to buses to subways.

I was trapped on an outlying island in Hong Kong. I hadn’t paid attention to the ferry times, and the last ferry had left the island at about 5 PM; it was now 8 PM, and I realized with growing panic that I would miss my flight if I didn’t find some way to get back. I also had nowhere to sleep. I ran to the ticket office, trying to find out how I could charter a boat back to the mainland. They said I could get one for $10,000. I almost got one, then started thinking that it would be cheaper to just buy a new plane ticket back to the US. The sun glared a bit too much, and the island simmered in a sleepy, empty haze. It owes a lot to my anxiety about not planning for Friday’s upcoming trip, along with strong visuals from outlying HK islands and my experience getting stuck on Levanzo, a small island off the coast of Sicily, when the seas were too choppy.
